Newcomers and longtime residents of Christian County can expect clean streets, well kept yards and a friendly atmosphere in neighborhoods where the the term "neighbor" still means something.

The Pana and Taylorville communities offer a wide range of housing designs. You will find modern ranch, older bungalows, spacious two stories, beautiful Victorian homes and other achitectural designs appear throughout the communities. For those not wanting to purchase a home, you will find apartments, duplexes, condominiums and town houses readily available.

As a Critical Access Hospital, St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, operates 25 acute care beds and 50 long term beds and offers a wide range of outpatient programs and services. St.
Vincent's employs 420..
Pana Community Hospital is a 44-bed general acute care hospital with a uniquely designed Medical Mall to house physician offices, along with facilities for community education and meetings. These and other medical, dental, and eye care facilities located throughout Christian County are dedicated to providing complete family health care with the latest technology and techniques.

You will find that spiritual needs are also met in Christian County. A variety of churches and denominations are represented to encompass most faiths. Christian County is served by 57 different churches. You are sure to find the right congregation for you and your family. Civic groups and service clubs are active within the county. Working as individual groups, or together, each share in the responsiblity of providing a supportive environment for all ages.



Pana and Taylorville both have libraries to satisfy every reading or research enthusiast. Pana's
Carnegie-Schuyler Library has approximately 27,000 volumes in the permanent collection, with about 1,000  new copies added each year.  Also available from the library, talking books, large print books, cassettes, videos, and a vast area of resource materials.  The Taylorville Public Library has approximately 40,650 books and volumes in their permanent collection. Additionally, the library makes available 132 subscriptions, 1,252 video and 1,479 audio materials... with total circulation at 70,000.

Christian County is proud to be included in the "Looking for Lincoln" tour sites. Looking for Lincoln is a new heritage tourism project for the Central Illinois area. The program, which includes participation from select central Illinois communities, including Christian County, is developed based on the stories of Abraham Lincoln's life and times throughout the area. Through active participation in the "Looking for Lincoln" program and partnerships between community leaders and residents, local businesses, the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, and a number of governmental agencies, this unique heritage tourism project will eventually offer the world a more comprehensive look at Abraham Lincoln before he took his place in history.

Christian County Historical Society welcomes all ages as explorers of the past. You can discover the intrigue of America's past through the unique lens of local history. Learn the many stories of our regional past through permanent and changing exhibits where each object connects the visitor with a time gone by. Informative lectures and workshops, family programs, trips and tours, and an array of celebratory events combine to bring history to life.
